Frequently Asked Questions
How does counselling work?
The counsellor will encourage you to talk about your problems and help you to explore their possible effects. By carefully listening and checking back, your counsellor will help you focus on the main issues and understand your feelings about them. Although counsellors do not give advice, they do help you to work through your difficulties and move on to a happier and more fulfilling life.
Counselling is a very personal process, sometimes it is necessary to talk about painful feelings or difficult decisions, so you may go through a period of feeling worse than when you started. However, counselling should enable you to feel better in the long-run.
If you do experience a period of feeling worse, talk to your counsellor about it to ensure you get the best out of your sessions.
Is Counselling Confidential?
Yes, apart from a few exceptions, counselling provides a safe place in which to explore your concerns and anxieties. Your counsellor is someone dedicated to helping you to deal with your difficulties, and cope with them in a new and more effective way.
How are meetings arranged?
You can contact us by phone or email, where we can offer the next available appointment or you can choose the counsellor you would like to work with from ‘Our Counsellors & Therapists’ page. In the first meeting with your counsellor you will give an overview of the areas you want to work on. After that the sessions are normally each week and arranged between you and your counsellor. We are privately funded and normally discuss our charges when you phone to make the first appointment.
How many sessions will I need?
You don't have to agree to any specific number of sessions. For many people about 4 - 6 is enough, whilst others may continue for many months. It really depends on your individual situation. Your chosen counsellor will discuss this with you before and during your course of counselling.
How much will it cost?
Sessions last for approximately 1 hour at a cost of £50 for individuals and £65 for couples.
Payment can be made by cash or cheque - prices may be subject to change.
What if I want to end Counselling?
You can end the sessions at anytime, although we do require 2 working days notice of any alterations or cancellations.
Is Counselling a sign of weakness?
On the contrary, it's a sign of strength to have decided to confront the difficulties. The role of the counsellor is to help you understand the problems more clearly, and access your hidden strengths and resources.
